What's Included?

The package includes the Hayward Salt and Swim 3C control unit, a 30,000 gallon salt cell, 880lbs of high grade pool salt, and installation with conversion.  

What's Conversion?

Conversion is the process that we take to completely convert your pool from a standard chlorine pool to a fully functioning salt pool and is included with the Hayward Salt and Swim 3C installation package.  This process requires a very large initial dosage of high grade pool salt to be introduced and mixed into your pool during the installation to achieve the proper salt concentration so that your new Hayward Salt and Swim 3C system can begin producing chlorine.

Why So Much Salt?

Your pool, when being converted from a standard chlorine pool to a salt pool, requires such a large amount of salt with the initial installation because we need to bring the salt concentration or parts per million (ppm) up to the level required so that it can be converted into 100% free chlorine.  After the initial large dosage of salt, most pools only use 1-2 40lb bags of salt per month making it simple and easy for you to sanitize your pool.  Simply pour it in, mix it up, and walk away.  Any of the 880lbs of salt included in the Hayward Salt and Swim 3C installation package that we don’t need to achieve the proper salt concentration during your installation is yours to keep and use throughout the pool season. 

Will My Water Taste Like Salt?

At the proper salt concentration or ppm, your newly converted salt pool will only be roughly 10% as salty as the ocean and will have only the slightest to almost unnoticeable taste of salt.  Some folks who are hyper sensitive to taste may have a greater sensation of the taste of salt but it's generally only very minimally noticable. 

Whats a PPM?

The ideal concentration or ppm for salt in your pool is 3000-3400ppm.  It’s important to maintain the salt concentration within this range so that your new Hayward Salt and Swim 3C system can consistently generate the chlorine necessary to sanitize your pool.  Because of that, every Hayward Salt and Swim 3C installation comes with a FREE Salt Test Kit making it convenient, simple, and easy for you to test and maintain the salt level in your new salt pool! 

When Do I Add More Salt?

How often do you need to add salt?  This depends entirely on several factors including the size of your pool, bather load, and overall chemical consumption throughout the pool season but generally, most only need to add 1-2 40lb bags of salt per month with the goal of simply maintaining the proper concentration or ppm.

About my Salt Cell?

Does the salt cell need to be replaced?  The salt cell included with the installation of your salt system works hard 24 hours a day while your pool is running converting raw salt into 100% available chlorine and, over time, it wears out.   Don’t worry though because all salt systems have salt cells that need to be replaced as a regular maintenance item but thankfully, the Hayward Salt and Swim 3C replacement salt cell is priced at roughly half of more expensive competitive salt systems replacement cells.  In our service area, the average lifespan of a 30,000 gallon Hayward Salt and Swim 3C salt cell is 3 complete pool seasons.  The cost of replacing the cell is $250.00 and we will deliver and install it for you for free.  And, as an added convenience, your Hayward Salt and Swim 3C control unit will tell you when your salt cell life is getting low so you will know well in advance that its coming time to have it replaced.  

Warranty Information

The Hayward Salt and Swim 3C control unit comes standard with our Totally Hayward 3 year warranty on parts.  The 30,000 gallon salt cell comes with a 1 year warranty guaranteeing that it will last at least 1 full year from the date of installation.  The cell is a regular maintenance item with only a limited service time whereas the control unit is designed and manufactured to perform for the life of your pool.

Installation Requirements

The Hayward Salt and Swim 3C control unit plugs into a standard 120V GFCI outlet and has a 12 foot power cord so it requires the outlet to be within 12 feet of where the control unit will be mounted.  Most pump stations in our service area have an extra outlet close by and, if not, your electrician should easily be able to add one for you.  We also need a section of pipe after your pool heater that is at least 12” long so that we can retrofit the salt cell to your system.  If a long enough section of pipe is not available, we will add it in at an additional fee depending on work and parts required to do so.
